Bernard’s feelings of being an outsider and his lack of satisfaction are intensified by his impressions of the Reservation. He now knows that there is another possibility of living together and in so far he could be a danger for the unity of the World State. His plan concerning the Director undergoes the authority of the World State and could be a bad example to other people. If the community sees that even the Director acted against the principles that secure “Community, Identity and Stability”, the identity with the motto would be damaged, which would lead to instability of the World State. The second problem would be that people know that the system is not free of faults that make such“disgust” possible what includes the possibility of the development of rebellious thoughts.

John is attracted towards Lenina and even falls in love with her. First just being impressed by her outward appearance he more and more respects her character and learns to love her. Her (sometimes) odd behavior interests him in a way that reminds the reader of Lenina’s interest in Bernard. John ,gaining for the values of the World State, probably is so attracted by her because of her representing the “Brave New World” he is so interested in. So John can be seen on the one hand as the rival of Bernard (in the fight for Lenina) and oin the other hand as the total opposite of him(John longing for BNW, Bernard for the values of the Reservation).
